Dates/Locations  |  Register  |  Instructor  |  For More Information

This seminar is for technical staff of companies designing, manufacturing, and using API 6D pipeline valves. The seminar covers the entire specification, including annexes.

The first section of the seminar covers the basic rules of API Specifications: what API does and does not incorporate into specifications. The committee structure of API and its relationship to ISO will be briefly summarized. The difference between API 6D and its ISO sister specification, ISO 14313, will be explained.

The remainder of the seminar will cover in detail the entire specification. First are the scope and basic ground rules. Next, the important definitions, symbols and abbreviations are covered.

Next, the different valve types and configurations are shown with illustrations. In addition, the rules for design and design documentation are covered.

The requirements for materials, welding, quality control, and pressure testing are each presented and illustrated. The requirements for coatings, marking, and shipping are covered, as well as the rules for documentation and document retention.

The annexes to API 6D, which include supplementary requirements that may be agreed between the manufacturer and user, are explained. Annex D, giving purchasing guidelines, and Annex E, examples of product marking, are also included. The final annex covers the API monogram program and is explained in detail.

Class notes are in the form of a workbook, requiring the participants to fill in the blanks. Attendees will also be given several multiple-choice examinations during the course of the seminar, which will help to cement the learning.

This seminar is co-authored by David Cornelson and John Fowler. Cornelson’s industrial experience includes heading up engineering at Walworth. Fowler managed engineering at McEvoy, and worked at Rockwell, a manufacturer of pipeline plug and ball valves.
